MEDRADSC 2D03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Glenoid Labrum, Spine Of Scapula, Acromioclavicular Joint
Document Summary
Functions of the shoulder girdle: secures appendicular skeleton to axial skeleton. Shoulder: via acromioclavicular joint & shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint, anteriorly: sternoclavicular joint, posteriorly: extensive musculature, scapula, humerus, clavicle adds strength to shoulder joint, has large surface area for muscle attachment (scapula) Shrugging of the shoulders; movement of arms forward & back (protraction/retraction) Divides supraspinous (above scapular spine) & infraspinous (below scapular spine) fossa. Angle formed is called spinoglenoid notch; infraspinatus & supraspinatus touch. Crest of spine is attachment for trapezius & deltoid muscles. Parallel to vertebral column, when arm is at side. Entire border is covered by muscles (why it"s hard to palpate) Junction of superior & medial borders; the one that can be palpated. Junction of medial & lateral borders (7th rib); level of 7. Immediately behind (medial) to the glenoid cavity is a slight constriction - glenoid neck. Cartilage is used to deepen the articular surface. Small areas of roughened bone above & below glenoid cavity.
