oCells in prostate secrete PSA

Transrectal exam (TRE) by GP (digital): can only feel posterior, usually where the nodules are
oIf positive: pts sent for prostate biopsy with transrectal US for proximity

Transrectal exam (tre) by gp (digital): can only feel posterior, usually where the nodules are: if positive: pts sent for prostate biopsy with transrectal us for proximity, gleason score/sum grades cancer 1-5 but 1 and 2 look normal. 2 of the samples that are graded are added together. 10 is the highest score= cancer spread past prostate. 2-5 is the lowest grade, 5-7 intermediate and where most grades are recorded. Antibiotics 3 day dose: ciproflaxacin 500 mg started the day before and continues 3 days after. No blood thinners for 10 days prior. Fleet enema on arrival (really fast acting, usually by nurse, squirt bottle up rectum)
