Sc35 should only be done when the patient is unable to come to the department (unsafe) Surroundings: patients, nurses, etc - direct x-ray beam away from room occupants & occupants away from patient. Also why we yell x-ray before taking a portable exposure. Protecting ourselves: giving distance from the machine 3m (this is whenever the amount of scattered radiation is approx equivalent to background radiation) General requirements: warning signs, markings, mechanical stability, controlling timer, x-ray tube shielding, x-ray beam filtration. Irradiation control - 10ft cord & dead-man switch. Separation 2% of sid: focal spot marking. Mobile: collimator stepless adjustment & min field size less than 5x5cm, difference from edge of light field to edge of x-ray field to +/-2% of sid, accuracy of sid determination to +/- 2% Standards of functioning: reproducibility, accuracy of loading factors, controlling timer, radiation output linearity. Radioactive source (galinidium giving off a high & low energy photon)
