Packet switching take these messages of bits, and break it into packets that is small size, and sent one by one and reassembled (early 1960s) internet features. Get enough of these, can represent anything in the world using binary code. Can represent numbers, colours, text, addresses on a network. When doing packet switching, you tack the address onto it to make it ready for internet, & sequence of the packets (so it could be reassembled in order) routing tables devices connected and each one knows what it"s connected to, but doesn"t know the whole network. Defenses advanced research project agency (darpa) arpanet advance research. Routing tables add notes to the network without need to reconfigure everything.
