Last class, on the topic of music terminology. Chart has very broad generalizations about music but we"re gonna stick with these. Various elements of music we discussed last class are listed in the chart and some generalizations about them. A style of music that has sort of attained a classic status in hollywood film is what they"re labelling as post-romantic music. This type of music was innovative and creative in the 19th century. Some music hisstorians distinguish between early romanticism of the first part of the 19th century and later romanticism of the 2nd half. Strings are really the core of the sound, the heart of the orchestra. Beats will be grouped into regular occurring groups. Pretty traditional: hat mean it uses major and minor keys. Clear line that is the melody and everything else is accompaniment. Its very clear to the listener where attention is supposed to be directed.
