Feminism, racial issues further fragmentation of the audience. Abandonment of the hays code (began in 1930) influence of new wave cinema. Auteur concept decline of classic era scoring. Vestiges: lawrence of arabia (1962), score by maurice jarre (1924-2009) changing of values (feminism, racial issues) has an influence on film. No more unified cultural values as there appeared to be before. Moral ambiguity found in 1960s film even if movies don"t deal with subject matter. Auteur concept: idea that films should have a single artistic voice. Way which omvies were put together in 30s,40s, 50s were very much studio products. Director, like other staff on the film, was secondary to studio head in terms of input and power in making the film. This idea that the director of the film should be a sort of author of the film and have a major influence grows in this period. There"s a sense that films are art and should be taken more seriously.
