Today, gonna talk about development of film over 50s and 60s. and gonna look at some examples of psycho. Point to remember from this period is the variety in film scores which reflects the fragmenting audience which he mentioned before. Blackboard jungle (1955: modernist avant-garde music. Groundbreaking movie= blackboard jungle which helped make famous the song rock around the clock. Rocknroll only heard in opening and closing credits in this movie. The film and the song helped each other. So again like the jazz examples, music that is controversial used to depict controversial subjects. (ex. You also have more modern avant-garde music, experimental type of music. Sounds you hear are sometimes considered to be music, but sometimes they"re pretty odd. Kind of music that they"re using computers in 1950s. Composers who wrote this kind of music were intrigued by the possibilities of doing something new, something diff. something that forged very new ground.
