Punk, 1970s: u. s, velvet underground, iggy pop, the ramones, patti smith, mc5, cbgb"s. Iggy pop us based punk artist from the 1970s. Velvet underground goes back to the 1960s too. In the us an important place/club for this music was cbgb"s in nyc no longer there as of a year or so ago. It"s also a kind of back-to-basic music in the sense that it"s guitar/bass/drums music. Punks hated the mainstream rock music of the 1970s. The band that came under most hatred from some punks was led. Zepplin, they just hated zepplin in all its mystery, mythology and fancy lyrics, the complicated guitar parts and all of that stuff, let alone progressive rock. It was a musical refusal of all of the evolution in popular music and late beatles stuff. All this idea of introducing elaborate and artsy ideas into pop music. It was also about refusing aesthetic ideas, ideas of aesthetic beauty for example.
