Young boy with cancer had little control over enviro (hospital) but need to have some feeling of control . Main reason for referral: distraction of pain and some kind of normalcy in childhood. Got mt at home once he was released from hospital. Started expressing head banging behaviour b/c of built up frustration, couldn"t handle no". Used drums + instruments to explore the word no" and to self expression. New goal - help him express frustration without inflicting physical harm: managed frustration on piano b/c he was visually impaired, was able with touch + sound, hear where the keys were. All cultures in the world engage in music. Combination of music and medicine is not new, historically has been around since 500 bc. Music became a commodity and divided from medicine, but recognizing again how music is part of human being and processing memory, relationships, affects overall health.
