Document Summary

Lecture 4 music therapy models, assessments & ebp. The use of music to influence changes in behavior. Behavior is modified by explicitly arranging the consequences of responses based upon reinforcement principles. (stimulus response) This is an approach that some music therapists have adopted. This is most widely used in the states, it is not as prevalent in canada. The point when using this model is to change the behvaiour without exploring where it came from, why it is there so the roots of the behaviour. It is not of interest of what is the trigger, what is triggering the behaviour. The interest of this model is stopping the behaviour. Consequence and reward for behavior so music is stopped if the child stepped away from the piano to the drums half way through the song. Need to first come back, finish the song and then go to drum as a reward. Thus the opposite of this model is client centered model.
