Neurologic conditions: als, alzheimer"s, parkinson"s, abi/tbi, stroke, autism, common symptoms: paralysis, altered speech patterns, loss of coordination, etc. Neurologic music therapy: neuroscience approach to music therapy. Looks at how properties of music can translate into real life: 20 nmt techniques are divided into 3 factors, sensorimotor, speech & language and cognition, 3 most important domains. Sensorimotor domain: rhythm is the driving force to facilitate interventions, rhythmic entrainment and auditory-motor responses. Ras: rhythmic auditory stimulation, primarily used for walking. Sensorimotor domain: aims to improve heel to toe movements, balance, posture, rhythm is what is motivating them to continue in the movement and initiate movement, makes their exercise goals easier to achieve. Speech and language skills: using rhythm and melody/pitch as primary musical tools during intervention, melodic intonation therapy, taking his hand and tapping with him, feel the beat pattern and rhythm.
