MUSIC 2MT3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Analgesic, Music Therapy, Endorphins
Document Summary
Medical mt: use of music by an accredited mt in a medical setting to acheive healthcare goals. Experiments: measure the effect of one variable on another (independent vs dependent) Theory: general idea about how the world works. Confounding variables: dancing is not the cause of headaches, there could be another factor involved that are not seen confounding (ie. alc) Participants: random sampling and random sampling generalizability. Within subject: one subject or group will do both experiments. Between subjects: each subjected to different experiments. Reliability: do the test multiple times, same result. Validity: does the test really measure what its supposed to measure. Experimenter biases: significant difference in how you go about explaining and conducting your experiment to get the results you want to see. Subject biases: partial to the study objective, perform in such a way to appease that objective. Solution = blind experiments (both experimenter and subject) Experimenter: which subject is in which group: control or experimental.
