Review readings on inflammation and in reference section. Itis:" inflammation is at the heart of the disease process. Definition: a protective response designed to eliminate the initial cause of injury, remove damaged tissue and generate new tissue. Occurs in tissues and organs that are vascularized or prufused with blood. Move required components to the site of injury. Deliver nutrients to the site of injury. Promote healing and generation of new tissue. Microbes, immune reactions between antigen and antibody, trauma, burns, physical or chemical agents and tissue necrosis. Temperature extremes, oxygen deprivation, nutrient deprivation, genetic or immune defects & ionizing radiation. Non-specific- stubbed your toe, cut finger- same process will occur regardless of cause. Endothelial- lines the walls of blood vessels, space b/w them is tight limiting movement across the wall. Produce antiplatelet and antithrombotic agents, vasoconstrictors & vasodilators, regulate leukocyte movement and immune cell proliferation and participate in repair process.
