Document Summary

It has been discussed there is a continuum of inflammation from localized to systemic and with the addition of an infection sepsis can lead to multi-organ collapse. Both of these with the addition of i(cid:374)fla(cid:373)(cid:373)atio(cid:374) (cid:272)a(cid:374) ha(cid:448)e o(cid:448)e(cid:396)(cid:449)hel(cid:373)i(cid:374)g (cid:272)o(cid:374)se(cid:395)ue(cid:374)(cid:272)es fo(cid:396) a pe(cid:396)so(cid:374)"s health. For homeostasis to occur, it requires a balance bw health and disease, eg. bw inflammation, coagulation and fibrinolysis or bw proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressor cells. Homeostasis is complex bc multiple systems must work together. As we look at burn pts we can demonstrate that the loss of the integumentary system can impact at a critical level many other systems. This balance can help us adapt to changes in our environment both externally & internally. It is essential for optimal conditions- any change should bring body back to optimal conditions. Any inability to maintain homeostasis may lead to death or disease.
