It is very difficult to define peace. But we can say that: peace is a condition of social institutions, not inner peace. According to galtung, peace has negative and positive dimensions: negative: absence of war/violence, positive: conditions of human flourishing. Peace is connected with many different elements and can be studied from different perspectives. *peace studies is focused in outer peace (as a social virtue) What is peace: no right/wrong answer to what peace is only justified answers. Richmond peace in ir: goal: the notion of peace in a particular field, international relations. Field of research studies the relationships between political entities, States, empires, organization of states (un), ngos, organizations, etc. Major figures: richmond"s thesis: different approaches in ir have different conceptions of peace. Richmond (2) three main approaches (pp. Theory --- *concept of peace: idealism --- *goal (unachievable) However, this does not mean that attempts to achieve it should be abandoned.
