Document Summary
Lecture 10 chapter 8 consumer ethics: consumers necessary condition to company"s existence. Thought to owe them a special consideration (relationship of dependency- company depends consumers) Because consumers are using products and services, company is put in a position where it can have a dramatic affect, incredible power. Both have ability to harm or help each other. Long tradition that businesses do not owe anything to consumers: caveat emptor (buyer beware) Speaks to the idea that as a customer, you"re knowingly taking a risk. Any bad effects are our fault: consumer"s responsibility, up to them if they want to buy it, knowingly taking a risk as a reasonable entity. They made the choice to purchase: if reasonable, then should be responsible for the risks you take, this is now failing. Just because someone is intelligent, does not mean you can treat them however you want.
