Philos 1a03 - apr 05 - friedrich nietzsche. Self-taught, never held any position as a philosopher (although he was a professor) Lived as a bedridden invalid for the last 10 years of his life. One of his final books before he became bedridden, twilight of the idols (1889) The unexamined life is not worth living - nietzsche says that socrates making all the best things in life be examined, is bizarre. Nietzsche thinks socrates is decadent (in decline/decay, doing a bad thing carefully , when the best and brightest decine, etc. ) Idolizes socrates, makes him a hero and bring the whole world into a cult that attacks the greek way of life and denies the common life. Plato does a bad thing very well = decadent. Poets make the audience love the world, flatter the audience. Art presents a world that the audience recognizes as their own and makes them love it.
