She"s not just clever, she believes it is odysseus but pretends she (e"s an annoyance to his parents right now. He is sent away to plan a party for the arrival of his father. The people around the house think penelope has married a suitor and they judge her hard. Odysseus and penelope- delayed reunion based society has changed. Their bed is a physical part of the palace- the palace was made around it.
