Document Summary

We talk about the soul because meaning for life has to do with our inner life. When she talks about the needs of the soul . She talks about the things we need to live a meaningful life. Soul = spirit = non material life. We do not have rights, instead other people have obligations towards us. She changes the shift about rights being self centred. So, obligations are always individual and unconditional. The object of obligation = always a human being. The number one obligation = respect (everything else below follows) The needs of the soul: are related to obligations. War destroys friendship, love, community and life. Dignity can be destroyed: respect, truth, obligation, a meaningful future. Might look at the soul as something to do with ones inner life. The soul does not equal the mind. The soul has to have a communal life: it needs obligations, responsibilities, etc.
