Masturbation in the 18th and especially the 19th century was widely believed to produce a spectrum of serious signs and symptoms and was held to be a dangerous disease entity. What we label disease has to do with value. There is nothing objective about the concept of disease. The concept of disease is all about what people find significant or insignificant. Science, particularly medical science is infused with value whether is be cultural, social, religious, and political. It always seems that you can always be healthier, health is very much associated with the individuals opinions, it is all relative to who you are as a person. Health (aristotle) believed that health had to do with balance, you are either exercising too much or not enough, balance is key. When we attempt to explain what is in the world we are, at the same time, making judgements on what is significant or valuable and desirable or undesirable.
