The common view that we cannon have a value free science of health is wrong. Because those who hold the view that they science of health is evaluative (value-laden) confuse the theortical and practical senses of "health" Disease: a deviation from the body"s normal function. Illness: a disease which is i) undesirable for it bearer, ii) a title to special treatment; and iii) a valid excuse for normally criticisable behaviour. All illnesses are diseases but not all diseases are illnesses. The view that all judgements regarding health include value judgements - they are good or bad. To call a condition unhealthy is, at least in part, to say it is. Therefore, we cannot define health in non-evaluative terms. Two varieties or normativism - strong versus weak. Strong normativism - to call a condition unhealthy is to. All we need to deem a conditions unhealthy is to stat that it is bad.
