Colonialism / imperialism often used interchangeably but: colonialism = extending its power over other countries and its people (maintaining a relationship between the new and mother countries, about conquering and settling. Imperialism = older , an extension of the empire (more historical) 1st stage was the conquest of the americas (done through imperialism) motive was always for profit. Fanon"s point: the colonist fabricates the colonized defined in relation to the white man, causes a sense of alienation and objectification, the colonized. Fanon and decolonization: the process of decolonization occurred relatively quickly. The conditions of the colonized as per fanon: We must read this with sensitivity and openness: understanding how it feels to be reduced to the view of an object.
