Sex = biological differences between men and women. Gender: social meanings/constructions of those distinctions analytically very interesting how did norms get constructed, what are the meanings in regards to different places/times how identities are created and constructed how they can be deconstructed. Notions of sex are changing boundaries can be policed and enforced. Sex related to gender, but not synonymous. Gender differences are a pivotal way of organizing the social structure. Political science: focused on power relations in government, institutions, elections. Feminist critique: revise the discipline: important to pay attention to informal relations of power. Troubling issue of what is feminism, what are the ideas, what are we really talking about. Difference feminism revaluing the feminine relation between men and women; relation between woman and child picks up on explanation of how she sees/saw feminist ideas in europe and. France elements still in anglo-american sphere caring/maternal role: advocates for transforming our society emphasizes difference but complimentarity between men and women.
