Senate needs work to improve (george brown) Regional balance: make sure it"s equal (senators are there to represent their region) Independent: in recent years in became more as a group effort less independence. Mission statement: sober second thought to legislation with respect to canadians interest (aboriginals, minorities, under-represented) Undertaking policy studies, and studies to understand things. Understand, sharing and representing the views and concerns of different groups, based on a senator"s unique perspective. Senate represents canadians more than house of commons. New appointment process: prime minister appoints the senators. In the past people who raise money or help the senate in any way they may get appointed into senate. Tighter rules: so that everyone follows the and stays in their lane. Modernization committee: televised senate (debates are interesting says eggleton) Bottom line: institution is 150 years old (getting better everyday) Goal is to continue reform, renew and modernize the senate.
