Most obvious: extension of the franchise: canada: people of colour (black, rst nations), women, etc. were previously not allowed to vote. Nearly all adults now have the right to vote. Research question: why has political participation become more inclusive: there is an irony to the history of the extension of democracy: a peaceful democratic. For the most part, the franchise wasn"t given it was taken : question: can democracy be created peacefully? or does force need to be applied in order for change to happen. The electoral process is structured in such a way that the people are far removed from government. People don"t get to in uence what the elected government does with the power they have been given. System is becoming less responsive to the wants/needs of the people: decline in voter turnout rates. Question: why: how to manage the tension between the will of the majority and the rights of the minority.
