Indirect: we don"t want you to undertake an activity and if you want to do it you will have to pay for it: smoking. Depending on police force you need to be a canadian citizen. Depending on jurisdiction you need to be able to speak english or french. You will have to pass a background check. You need to obtain a chief of police certi cate: in order to achieve these certi cates it is administered by a private corporation who is happy to take your money. In 2015, 70% of new hires in toronto had some type of post-secondary education. Training: 18-24 weeks, tactical, academic, physical fitness. Police of cers can have some choice of how much they are enforcing. Military in uence: chain of command, pursued a military approach, needed uniforms. Local in nature: jurisdictions, restricted in resources like nancial aid, keep community in order.
