Adeimantus brings up the point that the guardians don"t get to keep any of the things people normally would call the pleasures of life. How can the people that are supposed to be most invested in city receive nothing from it. His rebuttal is that the point is not to make the guardians indiv. happy. But rather how happy the city as a whole can be. Political associations is about a partnership and not predicated by the happiness of a certain class but rather the happiness of people as a whole. He believes adeimantus is thinking about class relations, and political institutions wrong. Plato says, it"s very di cult to create common good. We cannot understand people in di . classes because the polarization is so extreme that people essentially live in di erent worlds. In this ideal city, no class is too wealthy or too poor.
