What kind of power matters: three kinds. Lecture 2: coercive force = forcing people to do things against their will, economic influence = incentivising people or penalizing them for non-compliance, persuasion = convincing someone to do something in their own will. Friction: "only concept that corresponds to the factors that distinguish real war from war on paper: clausewitz"s trinity (all exist in war, emotion, luck, calculation = weapons, resources, support etc.
