Democracy means is who has power > machiavelli. The prince was about new principalities, the book were doing is about old republics. His rst meaning is this meaning of independent. If ur city is not self-governing then there is no sense to it. Hobbes talks about the opposite of machiavelli, the person living in luca (absolute principality) because they try to regulate everything in your life as it is a republic. To hobbes, you should be occupied by a tyranny rather than that of a republic. In freedom, you make the law, that law has to make ur state in dependent of its own fate. The effective truth is what works for machiavelli. If you want people to be good of any sense, then you have to force them.
