The little daily things matter, and the positive major events matter more than the negative ones. Warm, attentive parenting provides children with social competence (ability to interact with others) and results in less internalizing (depression and anxiety) and externalizing (acting out) behaviours. Causal mechanisms of warm, attentive parenting results are unclear. Temperament: may be that the child is easier to love. Internal working model: if parent is loving, child will be loving in future relationships. In children aged 10-13, life satisfaction is most strongly related to relationship with family, and there is no correlation between grades and demographics. Emotional closeness to mothers and fathers make independent contributions to life satisfaction. There is not one average family value, but contributions from each parent. The relationship with the mother is the strongest predictor of adolescent well-being. Childlessness by choice has no impact on adult subjective well-being.
