Lecture 34 (Thursday, April 4, 2013)  Cleckley’s Construct of Psychopathy 10. Poverty in major affective reactions ­ May seem to be enthusiastic, or enraged, or mournful ­ Honest emotion are actually not found in the psychopath ­ All based on minor irritation, minor emotions 11. Specific loss of insight ­ Typically attributed to those with psychotic behaviour, like schizophrenia ­ Lack of insight is not the same seen in schizophrenia ­ Lacks insight in terms of seeing himself the way others seem him ­ Can’t experience anything subjectively ­ Doesn’t understand his own disorder ­ Doesn’t understand (or care) about the affects he has on others 12. Unresponisiveness in interpersonal relationships 13. Fantastic and uninviting behaviour with drink ­ Overindulgence in alcohol is found in some psychopaths ­ Very likely that facilitate acts of the disorder ­ Seldom show happiness when drunk ­ Often very rude, domineering 14. Threats of suicide rarely carried out ­ Often threaten to end life, but almost never do ­ Value their lives and personal situations so greatly, these are really empty threats ­ Care too much about themselv
