Males as juveniles are less fearful and more acive than females. Can be induced in females, blocked in males. Ontogeneic process: triggered by achieving a body mass of 125g. Atainment of this mass iniiates invesigaive and locomotory behaviour among males. Males reach threshold faster, and more reach it (females almost never do) Funcion/efects on fitness: to reduce the chances of incest/inbreeding. Evoluionary origins: in most mammalian species, males disperse further and earlier than females. Strong male biases in natal dispersal characterizes all ground squirrel species. The consistency and ubiquity of the behaviour suggest that it is very ancient (ancestral) in evoluionary ime, not recently derived. Get used to thinking at four diferent levels of analysis (pracice examples) An ethogram is a detailed catalog or survey of an animal"s behavioural repertoire. It describes the diferent forms of behaviour displayed by an animal. It is a complete and precise list of all the behaviour paters/characterisics of a species.
