Document Summary

Classical conditioning: the learning of a contingency between a particular signal and a later event that are paired in time/or space. Contingencies: presentation of one relationship leads to presentation of another. Unconditional stimulus (us): any stimulus or event, occurs naturally, prior to learning. Unconditional response (ur): the response that occur after the unconditioned stimulus. Conditional stimulus (cs): previously neutral stimulus paired with the unconditioned stimulus to produce a learned contingency. May not be identical every time (similar sounds). Conditioned response (cr): the response that occurs once the contingency between the cs and the us has been learned. Acquisition: the process by which a contingency between a cs and us is learned. Contingencies are learned slowly but most of the learning happens during earlier trials. Extinction : the loss of the cr when the cs no longer predicts the us. Promotes a learn inhibitory response that competes with the origional learned contingency.
