PSYCH 1F03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Frontal Lobe, Visual Cortex
Document Summary
Lecture 4: structures of the brain the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is a few millimetres thick. The brain"s surface is folded in on itself and composed of ridges (gyri) and fissures (sulci) The human brain has more of these than other species, and the cortex is larger. Cerebral cortex is the last part of the brain to develop. The kinds of interconnections that are formed depends on our experiences. Divided into the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes. The front and parietal lobes are divided by the central sulcus. The hemispheres are also divided by a sulcus. The left hemisphere usually deals with the right side of the body, and vice versa. The primary auditory and visual cortex areas are surrounded by association areas. Damage done to the visual association areas is severe.
