Theory - a general set of ideas about the way the world works: guides a set of testable statements called a hypothesis. Hypothesis - makes a specific prediction about the relationship between variables involved in the theory. Choose a research method & collect data- used to test the hypothesis (experiments: the data use to note any specific trends or relationships that the research has revealed leads to accept or reject hypothesis. Testing a hypothesis: may initially look for anecdotal evidence to support or refute his hypothesis. Experiment: scientific tool used to measure the effect of one variable on another: the scientist manipulates the independent variable, observes the effect on the dependant variable.
