Construct a theory ( a general set of ideas about the way the world works) ex: running speed is affected by external factors. Choose research method (the way in which the hypothesis will be tested, within subject/between subjects) Analyze data (discover trends or relationships between variables) Revise existing theories (incorporate new information into our pre-existing knowledge) The scientific method provides a standardized process for scientific research. Anecdotal evidence is insufficient to draw scientific conclusions because: (ex: energy drink for better test grades) Personal experience might not be the same as experiences for others. Cannot 100% be sure that the results are due to that specific variable and nothing else. Independent variable: the factor that is changed by the scientist. Tip: to find out what the independent variable is ask yourself " what variable is the experimenter manipulating?" Dependant variable: observes the effect of the independent variable.
