The scientific method : a formal way of asking and answering questions to get the most objective and accurate information as possible and sidestep the inaccuracy of our common sense beliefs and assumptions. The scientific method provides a framework within which scientists conduct their research. Theory : collect a general set of ideas about the way the world works. Hypothesis : form a testable statements guided by theories. Reliability is the ability of any test to give the same output when the same input is provided. Research method : determine a way the hypothesis will be tested. Collect data : take measurements of the outcomes of the test. Analyze data : note any specific trends or relationships between the variables. Revise theories : incorporate new information into our understanding of the world. Cannot be sure without rigours training that it is a cause and effect relationship. Dependent variable : variable being observed by the scientist.
