PSYCH 1X03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Basal Ganglia, Amygdala, Feces
Document Summary
All animal species communicate in one form or another, but true language is special and unique to humans. It is a complex system of communication allowing us share details and emotions with others. The arbitrary nature of language is shown by the fact that there is no indication of the meaning of a word given by its phonemes. The word cat gives no indication of what a cat looks/sounds/feels like. Animals do make sounds to express different things but they are not languages. The development of language is important from an evolutionary perspective bc it allows us to communicate and understand one another. There are thousands of languages in the world which could cause trouble with translations. When creating a new language one still needs to follow the rules of languages: gra(cid:373)(cid:373)ar: (cid:272)lear rules including syntax and morphology, le(cid:454)i(cid:272)o(cid:374): (cid:373)ea(cid:374)i(cid:374)gful des(cid:272)riptio(cid:374)s of the (cid:449)orld. David j. peterson is famous for making languages for tv shows and movies.
