PSYCH 1X03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Classical Conditioning, Headache, Multivitamin
Document Summary
Two types of learning: classical conditioning and instrumental conditioning. Classical conditioning is also called pavlov conditioning to honour contributions to scientist. Noticed that dogs would begin to salivate even before any food reached their mouth. Before training the dog would not salivate to the bell. After training the dog would salivate to the bell this new behavior was called conditional reflex (conditional upon training!) Where the presentation of one stimuli leads to the presentation of another stimuli. (witness a signal leads to an event) Classical conditioning: the learning of a contingency between a particular signal and a later event that are paired in time/and or space. Unconditional stimulus: any stimulus or event and occurs naturally, prior to learning. In other words, unconditional stimulus, will automatically trigger a response in absence of any learning. Eg: eating a lemon will automatically trigger a response. Unconditional response: the response that occurs after the unconditional stimulus.
