Able to categorize information with the use of our senses. Like attention and memory categorization happens so seamlessly that its easy to take for granted. However you are constantly categorizing your experiences to guide your decision making. Why categorize four basic functions of categorization. First classification allows you to treat objects that appear differently as belonging together. Eg green apples, red apples and yellow apples can appear different on a colour dimension but by classifying them as all apples you can treat them similary. Second function of categorization is understanding if we categorize this scene of two people shouting as a private conflict we immeditly understand that they probs don"t need your opnion. By categorizing your current experience and comparing it to similar experiences in memory, you can make predictions about your current situation. Fourth function of categorization is communication many words we use are categorized under a certain object.
