Unit 1: intro to the neural control of behaviour. A typical cortical neuron can have between 1 and 10000 connections with other neurons. Created an approach to understanding the relationship between the physical processes of the brain and the mind"s mental processes. The mind is a separate entity outside of our biology that controls our actions and thoughts. The physical brain acts as a connection between the mind and the body. The body follows laws of physics whereas the mind does not. Different types of cells serve specific functions within the body. The structure of neurons allow them to communicate effectively. Creates a network of input and output signals. Cell body: contains organelles vital to cell function. Reach out to neighbouring cells and receive signals. Pass the signals down to the cell body. Axon: long fiber, varies in length signals are passed down from the receptive zone and through the axon.
