PSYCH 1XX3 Lecture 4: Vision
Document Summary
1/3 of the brain is devoted to processing visual information. >the greater the amplitude of the lightwave, the more light is being re ected or emitted by that object os that object appears brighter or more intense. Humans only perceive the visible spectrum of light (360nm-750nm) Purity (single wavelength) of light affects the saturation/richness of colours. >most natural light is a mix of wavelengths and is not pure. Light passes through the curved cornea (start of focussing process, 80% of focussing process) >pupil size is controlled by the iris, expands when not enough light is reaching the retina and vice versa. Light passes through the lens, which does the nal focusing of light onto the retina. >the curvature of the lens causes images to land up-side down and reversed on the retina. The lens: exible tissue who"s shape can be altered by surrounding muscles to allow for better focus. >for close objects, the lens gets fatter and rounder.
