PSYCH 1XX3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Primary Color, Color Vision, Red Color
Document Summary
We see color because the objects reflect certain wavelengths of the visible spectrum, and they trigger specific patterns of response in our brain (cones in the retina) that give rise to our subjective experience of color. The biological purpose of color vision, is to differentiate between objects nd their background. Cats, dogs, and bulls don"t have color vision, but primates, and flies do. 3 primary colors: red, green, and blue. Sexual selection ( female birds differentiate how sexy male birds are based on the vividness of color) Foraging ( bees see a certain pattern on the flower which lets them make certain inferences, but humans don"t see it, which lets the flower stay in tact for the bee) So a blue object looks blue because all wavelengths are being absorbed by the object except short, blue waves, which are reflected so we can see this color. With additive color mixing, when you mix complementary colors, you get grey or white.
