Document Summary

Module 8 hunger and the chemical senses. Seeking out food and drink is a fundamental goal-directed behaviour because your body needs regular nourishment to function optimally. Eating and drinking is more than just nutrition its about living. During most of the human evolutionary past: In many ways, life is dominated by the consumption of food and drink: food sources were scarce, behaviours were motivated by constant need to obtan energy and nutrients essential to survival. In present context these evolutionary driven behaviours may now seem out of place in modern societies where calories come cheaply and easily. Feeding behaviours may be motivated by hunger and satiety signals: but guided to large extent by interaction of senses of taste and smell. There are many signals and complex interactions between the brain and digestive system that drive your feelings of hunger to consume food and drink. Satiety signals lead you to stop consumption.
