PSYCH 1XX3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Striatum, Parahippocampal Gyrus, Explicit Memory
Document Summary
Cogniive neuroscience seeks to understand abstract mental processes in a neural framework. Look at language, memory, learning and problem solving are tried to understand here. Behavioural neuroscience looks at behavioural aspects such as reward, sexual moivaion, feeding and so on. Head injury leads changes in individual"s funcioning such as learning, memory, motor control and so on. B rain changes with interacion with world everyday neural plasicity: environment can change the structure of the brain this is the basic idea of neural plasicity. Enrich environment vs. poverish environment in rats lead to enduring changes in the brain connecion, structures and representaions. Maternal care vs. other forms of care also lead to changes in brain growth and structure. Organizaion of behaviour studied how connecion between individual neurons can be changed. Described how connecions between individual neurons can be changed, and how combinaions of connected neurons can be grouped together as processing units called cell assemblies which can adapt to constant adjustments.
