Document Summary
Dorsal always refers to the back of the axis. Ventral means to the front of the axis or to or the belly . Because of the curve of the neuraxis, at the level of the head dorsal is up, but at the level of the spinal cord dorsal is to the back. Rostral means towards the top of the axis. Caudal means towards the botom of the axis. Medial: brain locaions that more central or towards the midline of the brain. Lateral: regions towards the outside of the brain. It takes special techniques to study the structure and funcion of the brain. Invasive research in neuroscience is not done with humans, but rather, the vast majority of what is known about the nervous system comes from work with animals or issues. Single cell simulaion and recording and popular neuroimaging techniques.
