Activation of neural receptors begins process of translating light energy into nerve impulses that are interpreted by the brain. Light photoreceptor photo-activation neural activity awareness. Problems: all images on retina end up being upside down and backwards. Brain is capable of adapting because of plasticity. *your brain makes assumptions and fills in the blanks. Perception fills in the void of unattended and missing information. We have a blind spot on our retina. The blind spot is filled in by the context of our environment (so its not a black spot) The brain assumes that there is a single light source illuminating a scene. Evolution humans evolved in a world with only one sun (one light source) Brain assumes that the light source always comes from above your head even if you are upside down. Brain assumes that like objects are grouped together. Gives you adaptive advantage allows to see camouflaged predator.
