(rap/metal music) * the v-chip - allows parents to program tv channels and block certain channels from children with a code. * issues in research on effects of media (study) * random assignment to violence programming or extensive video gaming. * the study had to be conducted on pre-existing groups. * studying how exposure to violent media on later development of children. Tv"s positive effects - sesame street, mr, rogers, barney meant to prepare children for school. (counting, alphabet, spelling etc. ) * sesmae street - based on work of morrisett (1966) - designed interventions for low income children to attend school. He notices that they consistently were not cognitively prepared for school by the right time. (available on pbs - public service, did not need to be paid for) It had signi cant impact on children that watched it regularly. Children who bene tted were even better off in their teens.
