The cognitive development perspective: how children think and how thinking changes as they grow, expectations about the world violations/non-violations learning, piaget"s theory of cognitive development. The contextual perspective: role of environment (from parents to institutions) and social development, people and institutions fit to form a culture the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour associated with a group of people. Lev vygotsky: focused on ways adults convey beliefs, customs, and skills of their culture to children, aim of all societies is to enable children to acquire essential cultural values and skills. What is development psychology: all theoretical backgrounds contribute to present-day research on child development, developmentalist"s goals are to, describe, explain, optimize development. Nature and nurture: nature and nurture development is always jointly influenced by heredity and environment. Connections across domains: connections development in different domains is connected, development in one domain (ex. cognitive growth) influences development in another (ex. social development) Identify a question: form a hypothesis, collect data, create conclusions.
