Child - conception to 10/15 years of age. Goal is to describe phenomena and explain them: why study children, rapid development things are always happening, long term influences how early experiences affect us later on (pre and post natal, real world applications. Babies begin creating synapses intensely (synaptogenesis), but let some die off as they get older (synaptic pruning: e. g. autism failure to prune synapses, continuity and discontinuity. Do children grow smoothly (continuous) or in phases (discontinuous) Both theories have merit, depending on the skills examined: nature vs nurture.
